A message to all employees from the Joint Health & Safety Committee

The Joint Health and Safety Committee congratulate all Norco employees for our outstanding success in the area of safety. We have reduced our OHSA recordable rate100% in two years. This speaks to your dedication, commitment and accountability.

DTR green card audits have uncovered a couple of trend. The first trend shows that the write-ups of the recognition data have deteriorated. SBY wants to share with you examples of good write-ups and some that lack the quality of details needed. The second trend is the misuse of nomination cards in which we will discuss later. Here are some examples of “good” green cards recognition write-ups;

Person A was observed having a discussion with contractors A&B regarding the importance of wearing chemical goggles in a marked goggle area.

Persons A, B, C, and D saw me struggling to get equipment X ready to be worked on.  They assisted me, reviewed what I had already done to make sure it was done safely.  Also, their help prevented a possible muscle strain on my part.
Person A questioned the way we handle RV-X.  He notified the correct persons and wrote a CROW so others can be on the look out for this in their units.

Listed below are some examples of “poor” green cards and suggested improvements.

-Person A, B, C, D, E cleaned the area and washed down. “Doubloon presented by Person C”.  (Self-nominations are not allowed with Doin Thangs Right.)
-Working safe under adverse conditions.  (More information is needed.)
-Person A & B sent in cards with the following information.  (This seems to be a situation where a Gator Award nomination card should have been used instead.  More information is also needed.)
Person A removed tripping hazards. “Doubloon presented by Person B”.  Person B removed tripping hazards. “Doubloon presented by Person A”

We are also asking employees to adhere to using the appropriate doubloon for the type of recognition being given. The DTR green cards and gold doubloons must only be given for safety related behaviors.

It is the desire of SBY to assist employees and ensure our processes are followed and results are achieved.  Therefore, please help us by completing the green cards as instructed with as much details as possible, legible printing of your names and the legal names (no nick names) of the employees being recognized, also check only one of the recognition boxes.

If you need assistance, please contact one of the SBY members or ask a fellow employee. Together, we can make Norco a place where “NO ONE GETS HURT AT NORCO – EVER.”
